Your welcome.  Again, let me know what we can do to assist in getting plated.  Ritch

Just got back from the DMV. All that paper work and they did not want to see a sales receipt ir nothing. The took my word that trailer and carry weight were 2000 lbs, gave me a VIN plate to rivet to the left hand side of the trailer. I still need to get a Police Officer to verify the tag and then go back to title and register.

Seems to be getting easier.......I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Thanks for all the suggestions!

I rolled my Bandit up to Troop G in Bossier City, LA and had them take a look.  Said since it was meant as just a mobile cooking unit, it would be like a mobile log splitter.  It is not considered "utility/storage".  No need for tags, numbers, or anything.  I obliged the fine gentleman, drove away and cooked ribs.

Mmmmm...  Ribs.

From past experience I've found it benifical to have a departmental memo-for-record to carry along in case an officer from troop X pulls you over and has his own opinion. Wink

Quote from: Beau
Looks like the mobile Bandit won't be so mobile. Here in the great commonwealth it seems that anything with a gross weight of 3,000 pounds or more, including load must be equiped with breaks and a breakaway switch. Also, since there is no VIN number you have to fill out a form and then track down a VA Law Enforcement member (cop) to inspect your rig before the state issues a VIN number which needs to be riveted to the trailer, then you may apply to register and title your cooker.
Anyone else run into this problem? I guess I could white out the Carry Capacity of 3500lbs on my invoice so all they see is total trailer weight 2000lbs.

Any suggestions would be great!

Don't show'em the invoice - tell its a home made trailer and will only pull 2000lbs

We, Gator Pit, are now providing Notarized  Bill of Sales along with the invoice and trailer forms.  Since attaching the Bill of Sale, I haven't had anyone have problems with plating in their state.  Go figure, something as simple as a Notarized Bill of Sale can prevent BS with the local DMV.

Hey Ritch, I need one of those for my insurance company.  If I send you my VIN# will you include it on the Bill of sale?

I'll check with Helen.  She is the Notary.  I don't think it should matter as long as we date the sale when it was received.
