A native of Sunset, Louisiana, his dream of being an entrepreneur started early.  He has always enjoyed welding, fabrication, and design.  As a high school student, Ritch focused a lot of time on becoming a skilled welder and fabricator.  He spent 4 years in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program.  He designed and manufactured his first BBQ Pits  at the young age of 14.

After graduating from high school, Ritch joined the Army National Guard.  While in the Army National Guard, he attended Basic Training at Ft. McClellan.  Then, he graduated from Fort Leonardwood, Missouri Engineering School.  Later, Ritch graduated the NCO Academy from Camp Shelby where he obtained is Sergeant rank.  From there, he served overseas.  He returned to the US and completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.  While pursuing various careers and designing custom BBQ pits, he quickly realized that his only true passion was in  metal design and manufacturing.  In 1996, with much thought and planning, he decided to open his own custom pit shop entitled GATOR PIT.  Staying true to my native State of Louisiana (alligators are known to live) and because one of his most unique and popular pit designs attach on the back of trucks for TAIL-GATING barbeque, is how the name was originated.
